Identity Confusion When Dating Online
Posted by writer under General on Monday Aug 17, 2009It doesn’t matter who the person behind the computer screen actually is. In online dating, we are offered to possibility of letting go of who we are and welcome new persons. We can forget about nasty words or events when we start a relationship with someone that doesn’t know who we used to be. But in most cases people do not understand where the limit between hiding sad stories and actually lying is.
You might even encounter old persons, maybe even grandmothers that claim they are young and athletic. And if she posts any pictures of another young and gorgeous woman, no can really say if it’s her or not. This is the reason why you should be looking carefully at profiles because what you see is not always what you get. There’s nothing wrong with a 50 year old person trying to find a soul mate online, but the fact that the person is trying to hide his or hers real identity is a problem.
Do try not to jump to conclusions too soon. The information you can access at first is very limited. While surfing an online dating website, you will find great and honest persons, but can also find others that are no so honest. This doesn’t mean that in time, finding your perfect partner will not become a wonderful process.
As mentioned before, you can choose who you want to be, but never lie on purpose. The internet offers us a great gift: letting go of the old. You might’ve been through a hell of a marriage, that left huge inner scars, and if you want to talk about it over the internet you can without feeling embarrassed, but if you don’t, no one will ask. Just a simple resume of your past is enough. In most real life dates, we meet and like people that already know us in some way so know that we were married, and with whom and so on. This means that letting go of the past can prove harder if not even impossible. While when meeting a date online, he or she will never ask for more than you are ready to share from a long gone part of your life. But a minimum of truth is required if you ever plan in buying together a britax roundabout convertable car seat for an eventual baby.
So try never to pass the line between hiding the past and telling lies. The two concepts can get scrambled at times, and they will result in unfortunate experiences for both of you.
